Godalming 'Key Site' decision "a good day for democracy"

1.17.21pm GMT Wed 9th Feb 2005

Simon Cordon has described the decision by Waverley councillors to refuse planning permission for an extra floor on the Atrium Building in Godalming as "a good day for democracy".

Commenting on the decision made at a Full Council of Waverley (31st Jan), Simon said, "Councillors were under immense pressure to agree this application but in the end they balanced the facts and refused to abandon well established local planning policy. This was a good day for democracy".

Simon has written to Developer Belvedere Smith to urge them not to appeal against the decision. In his letter to Mr Peter Beckham, Simon said: "…now a clear decision has been made by a clear majority. You will want to reflect upon it but I would ask you to accept the decision and not prolong matters any further by appealing."
