Mike Simpson at Waverley Key Site meeting
Mike Simpson, Godalming's Liberal Democrat Prospective MP, spoke against the proposed Key Site development at the recent Waverley Council planning meeting.
Mike says, "The scale and bulk of the proposal was completely inappropriate for Godalming. The eight storey tower was particularly shocking. A development like this would set a disastrous precedent for the town".
"Godalming needs affordable housing for local families but the proposed luxury flats development didn't include a single unit of affordable housing on the site. The developers said it was not financially viable to provide affordable housing. In that case they paid too much for the site."
"I am delighted that the Council rejected the application but I'm worried that a Planning Appeal might overturn the decision unless we remain vigilant and muster all the arguments against the proposed development."
Mike attended the public exhibition last summer and interviewed many people afterwards. You can view this on my YouTube channel mikesimpsontv. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swSvuSullJ4
Mike's objections
• it would be an inappropriate development for Godalming due to its design, scale and housing density;
• it would, if approved, provide a disastrous precedent for future development in the town;
• it does nothing to address the town's need for affordable housing for local families.
