Surrey Lib Dem County Councillor Chris Slyfield criticised the proposed Conservative budget for Godalming Town Council that saw ring-fenced funds moved in the general fund. Chris Slyfield set aside £6823 raised during his Mayoral Year for specific youth and community projects. Chris commented:
"Originally I set the £6823 for the Mayors Motor project to help local youth, but as this project became so successful that it was self funding, the money was allocated to restore the cobbles in Wiggins Yard.
I am absolutely disgusted at the cavalier attitude of this Conservative controlled council. I have asked why ringfenced funds were moved in the general fund and have not received a satisfactory answer. My Mayoral Project funds were specifically allocated to restore the cobbles in Wiggins Yard and have effectively been stolen to use on general projects in the future."
