Ken reed wins the youth vote
It was a gruelling two weeks for the County and Borough Councillors in Waverley who recently took part in the "I'm a Councillor, Get me out of Here!" contest. Day by day, students attending Waverley secondary schools voted off Councillors very much in the way of television's "I'm a Celebrity…".
After a close-fought contest, in which councillors responded to hundreds of web-based questions from the students, the "I'm a Councillor Youth Champion 2007" for Waverley was announced as Councillor Ken Reed, a Liberal Democrat who represents the Cranleigh East ward.
Cllr Ken Reed said, "As the winner of IAC 2007 in Waverley, I should like to thank all of those students across the borough who took part and particularly those who voted for me. I really enjoyed engaging with the young people and had to answer some very searching questions. I'm a Councillor, Get me out of Here may be seen as a light-hearted way of raising interest in political issues for younger people, but I hope that everyone who was involved - teachers, councillors and students - has benefited from the experience; I know that I have."
