SW Surrey helped Woking Lib Dems
Woking was the nearest area to SW Surrey to have local elections this week, and contrary to national results, the local Lib Dem team polled excellent results. Woking elects its Councillors in 'thirds', so not every seat is re-elected each time.
Rosemary Johnson, of the Woking team, wanted to share her thanks with all those that helped from SW Surrey: "First of all thank you to all who helped over the past weeks and on polling day. The result was excellent for us and we now hold 18 seats out of 36 on the Council. Knaphill South and Hermitage, Goldsworth West and Goldsworth East were all held.
Mount Hermon West was held with an increased majority and Mount Hermon East was won by 74 votes.
We also held the Horsell West seat and won the second Horsell West seat with 81 votes to the next candidate. We won Knaphill by over 300 votes.
Unfortunately the Tories won Maybury and Sheerwater, taking the seat from Labour - this is the ward where there have been various postal vote irregularities and issues of fraud.
We failed to win Byfleet by 2 votes after 5 recounts. Winning this would have given us control of the council - so you could say we missed overall control by only 2 votes. So Close!
The make up of the council is now:
18 LD
15 Tories
3 Labour.
