Free bus travel will soon be available to all Waverley residents who are aged over 60 or are disabled. From 1 April, an estimated 32,000 people who live in Waverley will be able to take advantage of free, off-peak travel on local bus routes.
To apply, people who are eligible for free travel will need to complete an application form for a permit which can be picked up from any of Waverley Borough Council's offices, and from most post offices or libraries. Alternatively, the form can be downloaded from Waverley's website. Completed forms can be posted or taken to any of Waverley's offices at Godalming, Cranleigh, Farnham or Haslemere. Proof of entitlement will be required before the permit can be issued.
Speaking about the scheme, Lib Dem councillor Celia Savage said: "This is an excellent initiative and I hope that everybody who is eligible will apply for their permit. One of the major benefits of this scheme is that it will provide freedom of travel and independence for many people. The incentive of free travel may also help to alleviate traffic congestion, as private car owners choose to leave their cars at home in favour of travelling by bus."
The bus permits will entitle the holder to free travel on most registered local bus services which operate within the county of Surrey.
