Waverley delivers 100% - electronically

January 25, 2006 12:00 AM

Waverley Borough Council now has 100% of its services available electronically and has met the government's deadline of achieving this target by the start of 2006.

This means that the public can now access information about all of the borough council's services, and links to relevant services delivered by other authorities such as Surrey County Council, on Waverley's website.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister published a report on local government website performance at the end of December 2005. This report measured the average download times and availability of all local authorities and compared them with a selection of central government and FTSE100 companies.

The findings of the report showed that Waverley's web services performed extremely well in comparison with all other local government websites, gaining top marks in all areas.

Councillor Ken Reed, Waverley's portfolio holder for e-government comments: "It's very satisfying to have met the government target for delivery of electronic services. I'm especially pleased that the report on local government websites has rated us so highly. Since its launch in 1997 Waverley's website has received nearly five and a half million page views, so it is clearly providing an effective and useful service to our residents and also to people from further afield who want to find out information about Waverley."

In addition to using the website to find information and advice about Waverley's services, it is also possible to make enquiries online about planning applications and licences; make payments; download information sheets and reports; apply for a number of services, including planning and building control; and report incidents such as vandalism, fly-tipping or excessive noise nuisance.

The website also includes contact e-mail addresses for every service and provides a gateway to details of events, facilities and services within the borough such as sports' and arts' diaries, a business directory and information about local guest houses and hotels.
