Simon challenges Surrey on parking Wardens
How many traffic wardens are needed across the Waverley area?
Four? Eight? Twelve? Sixteen?
The area in question is the whole of Farnham, Godalming, Haslemere, Cranleigh and the SW Surrey villages.
Surrey County Council is in charge of taking over traffic enforcement from the Police and a part of our Council Tax that Surrey takes is to pay for this. Surrey wants the work to be carried out by local councils, like Waverley - but Surrey must provide the funds for the traffic wardens.
Conservative councillors, who run Surrey, have put forward their proposal for the number of traffic wardens. How many do they think are needed? TWO! Yes, just two - that's half a warden for the whole of Godalming, Milford and Witley!
