Surrey Conservatives break promises with 92% Council Tax rise

March 17, 2005 2:08 PM

Council Tax has risen by an amazing 92% during the eight years the Conservatives have been in charge of Surrey County Council. This is despite promising low tax rises. At the same time services have been cut and the county's roads are amongst the worst in the country.

The Lib Dems are keeping up their campaign to axe the unfair Council Tax. They want to replace it with a new tax based on ability to pay. LibDem Parliamentary Campaigner, Simon Cordon, said, "Council Tax hits many local residents hard, especially the elderly. It's time it was abolished."
