Simon Cordon (right) is asking Surrey County Council to take action on funding for SW Surrey's traffic problems
Surrey County Council's Local Committee in Waverley has been asked to "up its game" and "think hard" about what it can do to "reinvigorate the case" for three essential road schemes in SW Surrey, Hickley's Corner and the Wrecclesham bypass in Farnham and the 'nationally significant' Hindhead Tunnel. The call came from Simon Cordon during public questions at the monthly meeting of the Committee.
Simon had previously spoken up strongly for Farnham's road schemes at a public meeting in Church House (27th January). He said it was 'essential not to change course' and the priority must remain to secure funding for Hickley's Corner closely followed by the Wrecclesham bypass. "It's taken many years to get to a consensus and if Farnham revisits the priorities we would lose all credibility with the Government regional office and would be back to square one in terms of securing the funding", he said.
"Hickley's and Wrecclesham are both needed for different reasons", added Simon. "The case for both is very strong. If Farnham changed its priorities now we would lose the funding for years to come. We must stick to our case and re-invigorate the very powerful arguments to secure funding in the next round".
