Simon Cordon is continuing his campaign to ensure the long-term future of Farnham's Crown Post Office. On Thursday 23rd December, he and other Liberal Democrat campaigners will be outside the Post Office, collecting more petition signatures from people finishing their Christmas shopping.
The Post Office in West Street, known locally as the 'General', is to be included in a review of directly-managed or Crown Post Offices. The review may see as many as half of all Crown Post Offices close. The Royal Mail have stated that the Post Office will not close next year, but are refusing to rule out that it may close as a result of the review in 2006/07.
Simon has already been handing out petition leaflets explaining the danger to the vital Post Office
After a previous session of handing out leaflets, Simon said, "We have already lost the Boundstone office, Ridgway and East Street. There is no point waiting until an official announcement and consultation because they never take any notice. I am getting in early with this and will be fighting a three year campaign to keep Farnham's General Post Office. I urge everyone to sign my petition".
