Simon handed out surveys to Farncombe Station users
Rail users at Farncombe Station were met by Simon Cordon on Wednesday morning last week. Simon talked to commuters from 5:45am to 9:00am, handing out over 500 surveys asking for their views about the service.
"During this peak travel time there were two cancellations, the first train of the morning and one around 8:00am", said Simon. "This was very frustrating for people plus there was considerable concern about the new timetables and the loss of one or two trains stopping at Farncombe".
"Two cancelled trains was perhaps not the best time to be asking local commuters for their views. Inevitably they wanted to vent their frustration and in some cases anger at the service. From my point of view it actually was very useful to meet rail users during a morning when things were wrong. I got a far more representative view for the service. Cancellations seem to be a typical problem with SWT", said Simon.
Simon also talked to people about Network Rail's recent extension of the platform at Farncombe Station. "We were all looking forward to this", he said, "but they stupidly didn't extend it enough for ten carriage trains despite there being enough room. I will take this up but the chances of Network Rail coming back and doing the job properly are not too high", he said.
