Simon Cordon has been fighting to save Milford Hospital
Simon Cordon has now confirmed that the Guildford and Waverley Primary Care Trust (PCT) will announce at a Board Meeting on November 18th that the plan to close Milford Hospital on April 1st, 2005, will now be WITHDRAWN.
"It's not all over, but we are winning the fight", said Simon.
The PCT has accepted that their plan will not work. They now want to talk to everyone about alternatives. Whilst they are not officially dropping closure as an option, they agree that there are other options too, such as the idea put forward by Simon last April of expanding services at the hospital.
The public consultation meetings planned will now be used to discuss all of the alternatives.
"Thank you to everyone who has written letters and helped the campaign", said Simon. "I know some feared that closure was a done deal, but as I've always said, if we fight hard enough we can change things. Our arguments have been very effective and they've had to listen", he said.
Simon says he will now continue working with people across the community to make the case for expanding services at the hospital.
"This is the right thing to do. It's a better use of money and provides better health care for us all. With the public's support I remain convinced that we can win this argument and secure Milford's future once and for all".
