Under the LibDems women will get an equal pension whether they've paid a "full stamp" or not.
Simon Cordon is backing new LibDem proposals for the Citizen's Pension. The pension would rise in line with average earnings, starting at £105.45 for single pensioners and £160.95 for couples.
The policy has been fully costed. It would be paid for through cutting central Government waste, including the army of civil servants dealing with means-testing. Older people would get a decent pension as a right without filling in lots of forms.
Simon Cordon said: "The pensions system should be simple and secure so that people can save knowing their money is safe".
The new LibDem pension is determined by residency and not by National Insurance contributions. This means that women who stay at home to care for their children will not lose out and have to rely on their husband's pension.
People who have to go into residential or nursing care will no longer have to pay for that care under the LibDems. This would mean that older people would not have to sell off their house and use up their children's inheritance.
These measures, together with plans to scrap the council tax mean that LibDem policies would make a big difference to the lives of pensioners.
