Simon Cordon addressed the Annual General Meeting of the Lammas Residents Association on July 15th.
Simon gave strong support to the campaign for a flood barrier on the Lammas land to protect houses damaged in the floods of Autumn 2000.
He criticised a Government 'assessment process', which is aimed at prioritising areas of greatest need. "This approval process includes factors which have nothing to do with flood problems", he said. "Take the vulnerability factor. That means the Government will look at house prices and give greater priority to areas where prices are lower. It will work against Godalming and it is something we shall have to fight", said Simon.
Simon predicted that December 2005 would be a crucial date. "This is when all the work that local people have done alongside the Environment Agency will either get the go-ahead for a scheme to be built or will be dumped according to biased Government criteria. I will be with local residents all the way in making our case and getting the Lammas flood barrier built", added Simon.
