Within twenty four hours of formally launching a plan to expand services at Milford Hospital, Simon Cordon, the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman for SW Surrey, has received top-level confirmation that the plan will be one of the options explored by the Guildford and Waverley Primary Care Trust.
Simon launched his plan, A Bold New Future for Milford Hospital, at a public meeting in Godalming last night (21st June). The plan calls for services to be expanded at the hospital by the PCT, Royal Surrey, Social Services and others pooling their resources for elderly care. This, claims Simon, would result in a better use of money across the sector and would secure the hospital's future.
A letter received from Liz Slinn, Chief Executive of the PCT, has confirmed that Simon's plan will be one of the options explored. Mrs Slinn wrote: "We look forward of hearing more of your [Simon Cordon's] scheme, which we intend to explore as one of our options".
Simon used the public meeting to motivate the public to back the plan. He has already sent out 3,000 postcards for people to 'sign and send' to the PCT supporting the plan and last night started a white ribbon display which he aims will "adorn Godalming, Milford, Witley, Elstead, Wormley and further afield".
The white ribbons contain a special message about Milford Hospital. "Strong public support for this plan to expand services and secure the hospital's future is what I am seeking. The white ribbon display will be a symbol of that support", said Simon.
Special white ribbons are available from the local LibDem office on 01252 723549 or by sending an email to ribbons@swsurreylibdems.org.uk.
