Waverley's ruling Liberal Democrat Executive Committee will on Tuesday (April 5th) set out the programme for the most extensive consultation on East Street that has happened to date and that Waverley has ever undertaken on any subject.
Last Monday (29th March) Simon Cordon, the LibDem Parliamentary Spokesman for SW Surrey, met Waverley Leader, Councillor Chris Slyfield to discuss key requirements of the consultation to meet Liberal Democrat aims set out at last year's local elections, including the need to ensure that everyone in Farnham has the chance to have a say, not just interest groups or those who could attend an exhibition.
East Street Portfolio holder, Councillor Chris Mansell, has held discussions with the developer, CNS, to agree the details of the consultation and to secure agreement that Waverley will lead the process but CNS will fund it.
A key aspect of the consultation will be a questionnaire and information leaflet sent to every home in Farnham. Leading market research organisation, NOP, are also being employed to guide the process.
Councillor Chris Slyfield said: "This is the end game which is why everything must be right. It is also why we are meeting our number one priority, that the views of the people of Farnham must come first".
Chris added: "We will take the lead but I am delighted that CNS will be playing a full part and have agreed to fund the exercise. I urge people across Farnham to play an active part in this consultation. We want this scheme to be right for Farnham and to do that we need a massive response".
Simon Cordon has welcome the scope of the consultation: "I am delighted with the extent of this consultation. It is so important that people right across the Town submit their views rather than the approach used before whereby only people who could attend an exhibition could have a say. This massive exercise is exactly what is needed to provide the evidence to create a scheme in line with the views of local people".
