At key meetings, Simon Cordon is asking searching questions about 'rip-off Surrey'
Simon Cordon, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Campaigner for SW Surrey, has challenged Surrey County Council to "come clean" over how much is spent in each part of the County.
Simon says that Surrey is spending less in Godalming, Haslemere and Farnham than it spends in the north of the County.
"If you draw a line from County Hall in Kingston down to the south of Surrey I'm certain the amount spent drops as you get further down that line", he said.
Buses, meals-on-wheels, fire services, youth facilities - these are some of the services where Conservative-run Surrey County Council is failing the towns and villages of South West Surrey.
Simon first became suspicious when he forced the local committee of the County Council to formally debate the effect of bus cuts imposed from County Hall at the beginning of the year. "The information provided indicated that routes were being cut in our area because of increasing subsidies for cross-border London routes in the north of the County", said Simon.
The LibDem campaigner challenged Surrey over the switch in funds from routes covering Farnham, Godalming and Haslemere, to routes further north, but County officials gave an evasive answer.
Now Simon is insisting on details figures for every part of Surrey across a wide range of services.
"I am not alleging deliberate discrimination, but institutional prejudice that automatically says our area needs less. Such a culture is not acceptable", said Simon.
