Simon Cordon is visiting each of South West Surrey's Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB) at Haslemere, Godalming and Farnham.
Simon is meeting with staff and volunteers at Haslemere and Godalming CABs today (March 24) and will be spending a day, in May, shadowing an advice worker at Farnham CAB.
"Waverley is currently carrying out a review of its support to our local CABs", said Simon. "I am keen to play a part in that which is why I am finding out exactly what happens on the ground".
"I have always been a strong supporter of the work of CABs. They are an essential part of the local public service network, except the majority of their work is carried out by well trained volunteer experts. In my view CABs fulfil a role, and fill a gap, that the statutory sector just could not itself do. They are exceptional value for money", Simon added.
Simon's 'starting point' for the future of CABs in South West Surrey is that local access, from each of the main centres of population, must be maintained and enhanced. In addition he is promoting the concept of local partnership agreements between the CABs and Waverley which would provide three year secure funding matched to service provision.
Simon is also very supportive of the pilot 'mobile service' being developed by the Haslemere and Cranleigh CAB team.
