Local Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman, Simon Cordon, joined forces with Liberal Democrats across Britain at their Annual Conference this September to repeat his party's call for the Council Tax to be scrapped.
The Liberal Democrat plan would see people no longer paying a separate local tax but would combine local government spending within the current income tax system.
"In our area Council Tax is hitting far too many people far too hard", said Mr Cordon. "It is a punitive and unfair tax because it bears no relationship to someone's income".
Earlier in the year Mr Cordon collected hundreds of signatures from local people calling for an end to the tax. These were added to thousands more across the Country in a national campaign led by Charles Kennedy. Lib Dem MPs pressed in Parliament for and ending of the tax but Conservatives and Labour united in support of keeping Council Tax. "Despite this we shall keep on fighting. The Council Tax must go", added Mr Cordon.
