The Liberal Democrats have re-selected Simon Cordon as their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (Parliamentary Spokesman) for South West Surrey.
Simon Cordon was the party's candidate at the last general election, when he reduced the majority of Tory MP, Virginia Bottomley, to just 861 votes. South West Surrey is the third most marginal Conservative/Lib Dem seat in the Country.
At a crowded "hustings" meeting in Elstead Village Hall, last Friday, May 17th, local party members gave overwhelming backing to Simon, inviting him to "finish the job" from last time.
Simon first came to note in SW Surrey when he fought against hospital closure bids, at Farnham, Milford and Haslemere, and campaigned with tenants to stop Waverley Borough Council selling their homes to a private housing association.
Simon, who lived at Dippenhall near Farnham before the last election, works as a part-time freelance business advisor, based in London. At the meeting last Friday he told members that he will soon be re-locating to SW Surrey and spending most of his time campaigning locally.
"There is a tremendous amount of work to be done and the prize is big", he said. "The Liberal Democrats are set to win here and no stone must be left unturned. I intend to spend more and more of my time campaigning with local people. This job will not be part of my life, it will be my life, and indeed, I am ready for the fight of my life ", he added.
Chair of the local party, Derek Seale, said:
"The Liberal Democrats have held a fully open contest to select our Prospective Parliamentary Candidate. That process is now complete and we are geared up for the challenge ahead. Party members have confirmed their confidence in Simon Cordon to lead our campaigning and finish the job from last time. I am personally delighted by the decision as I know that Simon is the ideal person to place us at the heart of the issues that matter locally".
