The Liberal Democrat opposition on Waverley Borough Council are determined to keep pushing for an extension of the doorstep recycling scheme they introduced in the Borough over four years ago.
When the Liberal Democrats ran Waverley they set up a number of pilots, to see if doorstep recycling would work. It proved to be a great success and plans were made to provide the same facility Borough-wide.
In May 1999, the Conservatives took control of the Council and shelved the idea. The Lib Dems have called this 'short-sighted' and have promised to make doorstep recycling - for everyone - a major part of their manifesto at the next local elections in 2003.
