Council tenants in Waverley are the latest victims to fall on the wrong side of penny-pinching by the band of eight Conservative councillors who have seized control of Waverley Borough Council.
Eight Tory councillors have formed themselves into an 'all-powerful' executive, which now makes virtually all of the decisions at Waverley. A recent decision has caused fury amongst local tenants. It is believed that the Council decided to stop all but essential repairs to tenants' homes, until May of this year.
This is despite the fact that part of the rent tenants pay is for repairs. To add insult to injury the Tories have also hiked rents up by a staggering average of 10%.
After tenants rejected the Council's bid to sell off their homes to a private landlord, rumours have been running rife that the Tories are deliberately 'punishing' tenants by neglecting the condition of their homes.
The Liberal Democrats have now launched a survey to get to the truth of the matter. They want to hear of cases where repairs are being left. If you are a Waverley tenant and know of neglect please email us your concerns / issues to maint-check@swsurreylibdems.fsnet.co.uk
