Leading Labour sources have said that a vote for Labour in SW Surrey is wasted.
A senior Labour MP is calling for his party's supporters in South West Surrey to vote Liberal Democrat in the General Election. Denis MacShane MP, has drawn up a list of seats, which includes SW Surrey, where he points out that only the LibDems can beat the Tories and a vote for his own party, Labour, would be wasted.
Backing Mr MacShane, Tribune - a leading Labour newspaper - has said in very explicit terms that voting Labour in SW Surrey is a waste of time."In the 72 constituencies where a LibDem came second to a Tory, you should vote LibDem", the paper tells Labour supporters.
Locally, the Leader of Surrey Labour Party, Councillor Joe Bullock, has accepted that the fight is between the LibDems and Tories. "No question" about it, he said during the most recent full round of elections in the area. And Labour's own candidate for SW Surrey has admitted that his party is a "thid placed" party.
"The real battle is between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats, no question... and I don't think that anybody could deny it" - Joe Bullock, Surrey Labour Leader
"In the 72 constituencies where a LibDem came second to a Tory you should vote LibDem". - Leading Labour Paper, Tribune
